AQUATICAKES is my second EP written for chamber rock/funk ensemble. While the first one, Logistic Minutia, melds rock band instruments with an orchestral brass section to perform serious and intense minimalist chamber pieces, AQUATICAKES whimsically expands the palette by including woodwinds, strings, brass, synths, and spoken word into a funky slapstick hipsterrific romp down Bedford Ave. The EP is based on the amazing adventures of the one and only "Intergalactic Hipster Orchestra". We hope you enjoy it. Thanks for listening!
On a balmy late August afternoon in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, a talented band of hipster musicians were walking home along Bedford Ave. It was just after a particularly transcendent rehearsal and as they reflect on its deeper metaphysical significance, they suddenly and simultaneously had an unnerving feeling that all is not right on Bedford Avenue any more.
Eventually, they came to realize they had stepped through a portal into a parallel universe. Here, things were essentially the same, but with small peculiar differences. For example, in this dimension, Ronald Reagan was perpetually president and the national pastime of baseball had been replaced by something called Buckyball. Also, the people's food of choice by a wide margin seemed to be curious little seafood patties aptly named "Aquaticakes".
After some ups, downs, and outright freak-outs along the way, our lovable band of hipster musicians dove deep into their music, achieved a spiritual awakening, and slowly began to find their way back home -- to the big Blue Wild...
